Please Be Kind To Cardboard Leesa

Posted: November 27, 2020 in Uncategorized

Here we are – the day after Thanksgiving 2020. With the year we’ve had I guess I should have just stopped at “the day after” because it IS 2020. I really hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and now prepare yourselves for the explosion of Christmas songs and commercials heard no matter where you go. Yes, I know these have been heard even before Thanksgiving, but now it will be even more annoying. Or cheerful – depending on what kind of person you are.

I was somewhat cheerful up until the Steelers game got postponed until Sunday. It was originally supposed to be played Thanksgiving night and I was fully prepared to present the magnificent bird to the family dinner table as a Raven and carve it up like the Steelers defense was going to do to those dirty ratbirds from Baltimore. But, nope – thanks, Covid. The game will now be played Sunday – but I have my doubts now that Lamar Jackson has tested positive – but I will continue to hold out hope. (EDIT: since this was published, the game has been moved to Tuesday.)To be honest, we could use the rest since it would have been played on a really short week and Covid screwed us out of a bye week. I guess it’s ok though since my boys from Steel Town are 10-0. The ONLY team in the NFL with an undefeated record.

I have a friend who is also a Steelers fan. I won’t say his name, but let’s just say it rhymes with Terry Long. “Terry” has a theory – he says we need to lose a game asap because we don’t want the first loss to come at playoff time. This was discussed the night prior to the game against Dallas. I somewhat agreed but I couldn’t stand the thought of losing to the Cowboys. I would have never heard the end of it – even with the amount of suck Dallas owns this season. The next 2 games following were against the Bengals and Jaguars. I suppose I would have been able to deal with a loss there, but ew. But to lose to the evil Ravens??? NO. Just no, Terry. Oh, I mean “Terry.”

After Baltimore the Washington Football Team come to Heinz Field. (side note – they should change it to the Washington Team of Football so the acronym could be WTF, because really….WTF?? get a real name.) Anyway, coming off a beautiful win over Dallas, are they going to be the team to hand the Steelers their first loss of the season? (And yes, I am assuming we will beat the Ravens.) Surely not. I mean we can’t let the team formally known as the Deadskins come into our house and put a hash mark in the empty L column. Have I mentioned the Steelers are undefeated?

After Washington we go to Buffalo. This game, if I’m forced to pick, may be our first loss. And if living by “Terry’s” theory I might be ok with it. Might. I MIGHT be ok with it. After the Bills, we have just 3 games left; the Bengals, the Colts, and Cleveland. Surely we can beat the Bengals again – I mean anything is possible, but the Bengals are truly the Bungals more than ever this year. As for the Colts – they might be another possibility in which we may fall. But the Browns? Oh HELL no. If you want to possibly start 2021 off in an ugly way, we can NOT lose to the armpit of the NFL. (the game right now is scheduled for Jan.3rd)

You see where I’m going with this. At this point, any loss is going to hurt. Personally hurt – I realize we’re going to the playoffs and God willing a first round bye. And “Terry“, if you’re reading this, I really do understand your point. I have enough football knowledge to understand that in today’s world an NFL team doesn’t go undefeated. BUT, it is 2020 and anything can happen. Whatever happens – Go Steelers! Continue the ass kicking you are displaying.

On another note – tomorrow is Saturday. My Oklahoma Sooners were supposed to be playing West Virginia, but once again we can thank Covid for ruining a Saturday. The game has been postponed until December 12th. Just as we were having so much fun in the afterglow of once again showing our little brother – the Oklahoma State Cowboys – that there really is only ONE Oklahoma. It was cute though how they thought (once again) this was their year. You know what was even cuter? Ok, maybe not “cute” but funny? Ronnie Perkins throws Chuba Hubbard down then points north and gets in his face as if he is telling him to go back to Canada. I don’t know if that’s what was really said, but someone told me it was so in my mind he said it. (That someone may or may not be “Terry.”) Call me rude, I don’t really care – it’s funny.

As for my Sooners. (pause for a deep sigh) With the 2 early losses it was made very clear the playoffs just weren’t in the card for us this season. I’m going to be honest – I was hurting because I really believed we weren’t going to be Big XII Champs for a 6th straight year. But color me wrong. There is a chance! After those losses, my Sooners have only improved and have found themselves in the running for the conference championship once again. I am so proud of this team to continue to play hard and show improvement every single week. And how about that Sooner D?!?!? (Defense, you pervs) The last four years the Sooners ranked 64th, 101st, 68th and 69th nationally in total defense. The 2020 group is 25th. Warms my semi-cold heart.

Our last home game is against Baylor a week from tomorrow. Hopefully! Though my heart is broken from not being able to attend the games this season, my loyal and faithful cutout has been in attendance. Cutout Leesa has even made an appearance on ESPN. (no autographs, please) I have been asked what happens to the cutout after that game. I have made arrangements for it to be picked up so I can have it at some point. The only problem with that is, the person I asked to pick it up is friends with “Terry” and from my understanding they have plans to do “things” with it. Or to it. It’s frightening really. I also won’t use the name of the person that is supposed to pick it up for me, but his name rhymes with “Rob.” I beg you, “Rob” – be gentle with me….er I mean my cutout.

I should end on that note.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and stays safe. As for my Steelers and Sooners – continue your winning ways and kicking ass. Have I mentioned the Steelers are undefeated?????
